The Story Behind Yew and Me

After years of chronic illness, pain and fatigue, I’m finally bursting out of hibernation. I feel healthier, stronger, and more energised than ever. Crafting a vibrant new life is no longer just a dream; it’s become my reality.

I am not fully recovered; I am yet to know what that would even look or feel like. But I have come a very long way from where I was a few years ago! Keeping well takes a very prudent approach to each day: lots of careful pacing of my energy and mindful decisions. But, when I get the balance right it's worth all the effort!

Before Covid created a big pause in many of our lives, I was living alone and largely housebound due to my health. I could manage leaving the house once a week, then needing six days to recover and recharge. It was a small, isolated and very hard life. And lonely too.

Now, I live with my 90 year old mum as her carer, with a lot of support from other people. My health is very much improved, with careful and mindful management. I am now more physically active, and get out regularly on my trusty mobility scooter. More recently I have returned to studying and also volunteering. It's all a tricky balancing act!

Join me as I share the ups and downs of this next chapter: the joys, the challenges, and the everyday tweaks that help me keep thriving and improving, one day at a time.

Why Yew and Me?

My photo, above, of an ancient yew tree and its bench is one of my favourite spots for reflection and inspiration. If you recognise it, you’ll know just how special it is. I’ve spent countless quiet moments beneath its branches, meditating, daydreaming, and reconnecting with my authentic self. I hope this blog becomes a space like that: calm, honest, and a little magical. A space for both of us. Just Yew and Me.
